Through Finland from Helsinki to Lapland
Experience Finland from south to north and set off on a route from Helsinki to Lapland. The northern destination is Rovaniemi, the Arctic Circle hiking area, where Santa’s land awaits. The driving distance to the Arctic Circle hiking area is just over 900 km and the driving time is about 11 hours.
The route passes through Lake Finland, through Lahti, Mikkeli, Kuopio and Kajaani to Rovaniemi. Along the way, you can stop in interesting cities and explore their diverse, local offerings. In Lahti, you can see the jumping hills and radio masts, stop in Mikkeli for lunch and shop in the Kenkävero parsonage, which is an unmissable attraction along the 5th road all year round, right on the shores of Lake Saimaa. It is worth buying fish flowers from Kuopio market square! Kajaani Castle and the magnificent beaches of Ärjä Island in the summer invite you to stop and enjoy the trip. There is a lot to see and memorable in Rovaniemi, Santa’s land! See city info for information on cities along the route. Safe trip, Local4U!
