The story of Café

The walls of the house hide countless stories from times of the past within them, and we can hear them if we can stop and listen.

Café Majurska was founded in 1986 by Kati Kaapro. Kati Kaapro’s husband was a major at military rank and so the Café got it’s name Majurska which means the wife of major.

Majurska started as a small summer cafe in the first room of the Café that we see nowadays. Back in those days there were only 15 customer seats. In 1990 restoration of the house of Majurska was finished and Café opened it’s door in the form we see today when we visit the Café.

The story of entrepreneur

Arja Ylä-Outinen studied to be an artisan and founded her first company in 1993. Baggins made knit garmets and woven fabrics. That might have been a sign that the first outlet would locate in the Fort of Lappeenranta, at the house of Majurska.

The career of her parents interested her and she founded a café at Lappeenranta water tower in the middle of 90s. Water tower café served it’s customers two summers.

Arja moved from handicrafts to cooking and baking. With the skills she learned from her mother and the degree in bakery-confectionery Arja has improved her skills and continues to do so.

Arja started as an entrepreneur of Café Majurska in 2015. It felt like predicted turn in her life.

The development of a traditional Café has taken countless of hours of work. Lot’s have been done but there is still work to do. Arja’s family has taken a part with the work.

With will and skills one can go far.

Café Majurska is on City Tour de Lappeenranta route where you can from here.
