Kuopio Museum
The museum will reopen in 2021!
The museum is in a more than 100-year-old Art Nouveau castle in the center of Kuopio. Permanent natural science exhibitions present the annual cycle and past of Eastern Finnish nature. The main exhibition on cultural history presents the prehistory and settlement of Pohjois-Savo, local livelihoods and the way of life.
Puijo and Puijo tower
Puijo is the most famous landscape symbol in Northern Savonia, which has been admired for more than 150 years. Puijo’s back is one of Kuopio’s most popular recreation areas, with tens of kilometers of path and trail networks.
At the top of Puijo Hill is the Puijo Tower. Puijo Tower specializes in a revolving restaurant.
Riisa
The museum is one of the most significant Orthodox church museums in Europe. The Church Museum was founded in Kuopio in 1957. It continues the activities of the Ancient Monument Collection established in Valamo Monastery in 1911.
VB Photo Center
The exhibitions at the VB Photography Center present the history of the entire spectrum of photography to photojournalism and contemporary art. The center operates in the original studio and home of photographer Victor Barsokevitsch. Photo exhibitions are held throughout the year.
Tahko Tourist Center and the ski slopes are about an hour’s drive from the center of Kuopio. In addition to downhill skiing and cross-country skiing, the area’s nature offers great hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, ice karting opportunities and in the summer you can choose from many activities including golf, paddling, kayaking, frisbee golf, and fishing.
