Jyväskylä is the regional center of Central Finland on the northern shore of Lake Päijänne.
The student city has a diverse offer for tourists: Laajavuori Spa and Adventure Park, excellent shopping opportunities, interesting museums and a diverse offer of restaurants and especially bars. Nature is always close in Jyväskylä.
Alvar Aalto Museum
The architect’s title museum operates in Jyväskylä in a building designed by him, which initially served as the Jyväskylä Art Museum. The museum’s main exhibition presents Alvar Aalto’s colorful life and extensive production.
The museum is open until March 21, 2021, after which the museum will be closed due to renovations.
Museum of Central Finland
The museum is located in Ruusupuisto in a building designed by Aalto next to the Alvar Aalto Museum. In KeMu’s new permanent exhibition, you will get to know the stories of Central Finland, the landscape, the stages of founding the city, or get to know Jyväskylä, which was guided by Alvar’s son more than a hundred years ago.
The urban outdoor sports center Laajavuori offers tourists a variety of sports activities and nature experiences throughout the year. It is located seven kilometers from the center of Jyväskylä.
Nature Museum of Central Finland
The museum is located in Jyväskylä’s most famous green area, Harju. The main exhibition “Inherited Environment” presents the nature of Central Finland from the oldest bedrock to sites in the 21st century. The Nature Museum is part of the University of Jyväskylä Science Museum.
