The beating heart of the city
The awareness of Oulu’s market square, or Torinranta, comes from its market sellers, the market hall and outdoor events. The area meets local history and nostalgia for modern times. The old buildings around the market house have barn restaurants, cafés, handicraft, clothing and interior design shops. The most famous attraction in the market square is the Toripolliisi sculpture in front of the market hall.
Toriranta has been a marketplace and port since the 18th century. Over time, it has become a meeting place for Oulu residents. The market offers a wide range of products, from vegetables to clothing. The market area also includes a market hall, a library, Vänmann Island and a parking area. In winter, the ice rink is frozen in the market square.
