Lappeenranta is the regional center of South Kajala on the southern shore of Lake Saimaa.
Lappeenranta offers charming experiences as well as year-round nature tourism destinations. The city’s museums, alleys, galleries and artisan workspaces are located in the Fortress in the oldest part of the city. It best shows Lappeenranta’s past as a border city of two different cultures.

Gallery Pihatto
The gallery operates close to the city center in the middle of nature in the historic milieu of Lappeen’s old rectory. It is an art gallery and event space.
Karelian Aviation Museum
The Karelian Aviation Museum is located near Lappeenranta Airport.
Fortress
Lappeenranta Fortress is a valuable part of the common cultural heritage of Finns, Russians and Swedes and belongs to the Castle-to-Castle cultural tourism chain. The fortress houses museums, the Saimaarium, a functional nature and art center with a varied presentation of Saimaa’s nature, the Orthodox Church and the Craftsmen’s Shops.
Mikonsaari
Mikonsaari in front of the city of Lappeenranta, about 10 kilometers from the city center, is a nice day trip destination. On the Mikonsaari nature trail, variation in habitats can be observed in a small area.
Wolkoff House Museum
Located in the city center, near the Town Hall, Wolkoff House is one of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in Lappeenranta. The former store now operates as a museum shop, and from there, guided tours of the home side begin. The museum can only be visited on guided tours.
